Going Green With Utility Management Solutions (UMS)

There are many aspects of “going green” that help protect the earth such as reducing emissions and reducing the release of harmful chemicals such as PCBs and pesticides to reducing the use of our limited natural resources namely fossil fuels.

UMS is primarily focused on reducing utility costs in multi- family properties which has the dual effect of reducing the use of fossil fuels and emissions. There are many approaches and techniques to conserving and reducing utility costs. Some of these techniques have very little to do with residents such as increasing insulation or upgrading a boiler’s efficiency.

Other techniques put the control into the hands of tenants such as the measuring (metering) of individual utilities. In most cases, residents can impact cost by using less of that utility. Examples of conservation solutions offered by UMS are:

Submetering (click here to learn more about submetering)
Installation of low flow devices (faucet aerators, showerheads and toilets)
Electric device change out (from ballast lights to motor/generators)
Installation of setback thermometers
Boiler upgrades or change outs
On-demand heat pumps
